Seat Alhambra Key Problems
Seat's MPV jumbo family is among the top in its class when it comes to resale values. And with a new generation model on sale, it's even better.
There are many reasons the key fob could not perform as it should, including an inoperative coin battery, water damage to the receiver module, or signal interference. This article will walk you through the steps to get it back in working order.
Water Damage
If your seat alhambra key fob survives a wash cycle or a bath in the ocean or pool then it's probably equipped with an incredible waterproof chip, but don't make this a habit because prolonged exposure to water increases the risk of the key fob being damaged. If your key fob stops functioning after being exposed to rain or clean tap water, you should remove the battery and wipe the electronic component using a paper towel. Allow it to dry completely before replacing the battery. If the key fob was exposed to soapy or salty water, it is recommended that you clean the chip using isopropyl or an electronic cleaner.
Faulty Receiver Module

If you've tried an entirely new battery for your button and the key fob cannot be locked or unlocked, it is likely that the receiver module has discovered a problem. It's a simple and inexpensive fix. You can unplug the 12 volts battery for a few minutes (first remove the negative cable, then press the horn a few times) to eliminate any remaining electricity. After that, you can reconnect it in reverse. positive cable first then negative.
ESP Warning Light - If the ESP warning light flashes, it is normal and signifies that the car is driving on terrain where the traction of the road surface and the tyres isn't optimal, like snow, gravel or a lot of surface water. If the ESP light is always flashing, it is a sign there is a problem in the system. This can be diagnosed with a iCarsoft i908 seat OBD code reader kit. It will provide a detailed fault description.
Dead Coin Battery
A dead battery for the coin is one of the most common causes for the seat alhambra keys to stop working. The key fob is powered by a tiny button-cell battery. Replace it with a brand new battery that has the exact size, voltage, and specifications as the original. If you're replacing your battery, be sure to remove all metal retaining clips from the back of the key fob and make sure the contacts are free of corrosion.
If the key fob was exposed to water (such as rain or soapy tap water), it is recommended to remove and clean the chip with an electronic cleaner or isopropyl ethanol prior to installing a new battery. The chip is sensitive to moisture and can be permanently damaged. If the key fob is still not working after replacing the battery, it could be necessary to replace the entire key fob.
seat leon car key battery replacement
If your key fob has stopped working after replacing the battery, but it did not function, or suddenly stopped working, your receiver module could have experienced a malfunction. The receiver module is responsible for receiving the radio frequency signals that are sent by your remote key fob, and convert them into electrical signals which are then processed by other modules within the car.
If the receiver module is damaged it will not be able to accept any commands from your remote key fob. In this case it is necessary for a dealer to reprogramme the key fob, and also install the new receiver.
The key fob has been sealed with rubber to stop water from leaking into the electronic chip. If you immerse the key fob into salty or soapy water, it could damage the chip. If your key fob doesn't work, try cleaning the chip with isopropyl or electronic cleaner.
If the keys have been paired, but the receiver module is faulty it is possible to restart all the electronics on board by disconnecting the battery at 12 volts for few minutes. Connect the battery in reverse (negative cable to positive first). This resets all the on-board electronics and should restore their functionality.
A malfunctioning electronic chip
The key fob is equipped with a tiny chip that transmits a signal from the key to the receiver module each time the key is used. If the signal does not match the one that the car has stored the immobilizer is disabled and prevent the vehicle starting. However, if the key fob isn't functioning and you can't reprogram it this could be due to a defective chip.
The chip in the key fob could need change to allow it to function again. The best way to do this is by removing the key from its housing and then using a pin needle to get into contact with each of the metal clips that hold it. If these are corroded or broken, you will have to replace them in order for the remote control to function. Make sure that the replacement batteries are of the same voltage, size and specifications as the original.
The Seat Alhambra is an attractive and well-designed model but, as with any car, it can sometimes experience issues with certain parts or equipment. For instance some owners have encountered issues with the auto climate control system, which may be faulty and get stuck in a particular setting. The infotainment systems can also fail and freeze the screens.
